Eight players recognized for outstanding play in 2019 Salt Lake City Summer League

The Utah Jazz, who host and run the Salt Lake City Summer League, announced that Dean Wade and Dylan Windler of Cleveland, John Konchar and Yuta Watanabe of Memphis, Keldon Johnson and Lonnie Walker IV of San Antonio and Tony Bradley and Jarrell Brantley of Utah have received Salt Lake City Summer League Standout honors. Two players from each participating team were selected in this year�s Salt Lake City Summer League as Standouts, recognizing their performance in games played from July 1 to 3.
CLEVELAND CAVALIERS: Wade competed in two games for the Cavaliers, owning averages of 9.0 points, 5.5 boards, 3.5 assists and 1.7 steals. His best outing during this early July event was against the San Antonio Spurs where he notched 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Windler averaged 10.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in three games played. The Belmont product totaled 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting, six rebounds, three assists and two steals against San Antonio in his Summer League debut on July 1.
MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES: Konchar held averages of 8.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in two games played, with Memphis going 2-0 in those games he competed in. In the team�s finale against Cleveland, an 81-68 victory, he notched 11 points on 5-of-10 from the field, eight boards and two assists. In two games, Watanabe averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 boards and 1.0 assists per contest. He started off the Salt Lake City Summer League registering 20 points, nine rebounds and one assist in the Grizzlies 85-68 opening win.
SAN ANTONIO SPURS: Johnson posted the Summer League�s high scoring game with 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting in a 99-84 victory against Memphis on July 2. His total averages were 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest during the week. Walker IV recorded the third-best scoring average at the Summer League, finishing with averages 19.5 points on 52 percent from the field, 7.5 boards and 1.0 assists in 29.0 minutes per contest. Against the Cavaliers on July 1, the Miami (FL) product finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
UTAH JAZZ: Bradley averaged a double-double in two games played, finishing with averages of 20.0 points (three-day event high), and 15.5 rebounds (best average during SLC Summer League) and 2.5 blocks per game. Bradley totaled 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting, with 16 rebounds and three blocks in the team�s 86-71 win against Cleveland. Brantley saw action in two games posting averages of 13.5 points 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per contest. The 23-year-old helped Utah to an 84-81 victory against San Antonio in the final game of the Summer League, logging 16 points, six rebounds and a steal.

The Jazz clinched a second win during the final day of Salt Lake City Summer League beating San Antonio 84-81 behind the impressive play of two 2019 Jazz draft picks, Miye Oni and Jarrell Brantley. The opening game featured Grizzlies Keenan Evans scoring a team-high of 20 points leading Memphis to an 81-68 win over Cleveland.
Attendance for the final session of the Utah Jazz Summer League was 9,256, bringing the three-day total to 29,469 at Vivint Smart 信誉彩 Arena in downtown Salt Lake City.
The Jazz, Grizzlies and Spurs each finished with 2-1 records in the round-robin summer showcase while Cleveland was 0-3.
The Jazz had a strong start led by Jazz 2019 Draft picks Miye Oni and Jarrell Brantley. A total of five Jazz players scored in double digits, Oni (17 points), Brantley (16 points), and Willie Reed (14 points). Stanton Kidd and Austin Hollins each scored 11 points. In the first half Oni racked up 14 points on 5-7 shooting, 4-6 three-pointers and four rebounds and Brantley added 11 points, including a monster first-quarter dunk, and three rebounds. Utah maintained their lead in the second half with help from 2018-19 Salt Lake City Stars big man Willie Reed who finished with the team-high of 16 rebounds, tying the Salt Lake City Summer League single-game record for rebounds set by Tony Bradley during last night�s game.
Four Spurs players scored in double digits with Lonnie Walker IV leading the team with 19 points while Drew Eubanks added 15 points and seven rebounds, rookie Quinndary Weatherspoon stepped up with 13 points and two assists. Thomas Robinson assisted the team with 12 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Despite a fourth quarter rally bringing them within one possession, the Spurs ultimately weren�t able to take the lead against Utah.
Naz Mitrou-Long led Cleveland with 12 points and six rebounds, while Jalen Hudson scored 10 points, Phil Booth added nine points and three rebounds. Anthony Lawrence II and Dylan Windler each chipped in seven points. Rookie Dean Wade stepped up with five assists and five rebounds.
Memphis also had four players score in double digits with Keenan Evans leading with a team-high of 20 points. Yuta Watanabe finished with 12 points and grabbed the team-high of nine rebounds, John Konchar scored 11 points and eight rebounds while Julian Washburn scored 10 points and six rebounds. Paris Lee helped the Grizzlies with a team-high of seven assists.
2019 SALT LAKE CITY SUMMER LEAGUE PREVIEW
The 2019 Salt Lake City Summer League will be a four-team, six-game event hosted by the Utah Jazz on July 1-3 at Vivint Smart 信誉彩 Arena.
Now with a new look in its fifth year, SLC Summer League games will be played on a modified City Edition court.
�Salt Lake City loves basketball and has a tremendous year-round hoops community. Summer is no exception as evident by our record attendance last year,� said Jonathan Rinehart, summer league executive director. �We seek to capture the essence of summer with its casual, accessible and fun atmosphere. The downtown location uniquely merges professional sports, entertainment amenities and a world-class facility for the public and participating teams to enjoy.�
The six-game, four-team summer showcase will be conducted in a round-robin format with the Utah Jazz, San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers. Games will be held at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. (MT) with the Jazz playing the nightcap of each session.
The Salt Lake City Summer League showcases rookies selected in the 2019 NBA Draft competing in their first NBA games, sophomores, select free agents and athletes competing to make NBA and G League regular season rosters.
Three-day attendance for last year�s summer league at Vivint Smart 信誉彩 Arena was a record 33,884. The previous best had been 31,751 in 2015 when summer basketball returned to Salt Lake City for the first time since 2008.
Recent summer league players have included Donovan Mitchell, Royce O�Neale, Georges Niang and Dant� Exum (Utah); Davis Bertans, Bryn Forbes and Derrick White (San Antonio); Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz (Philadelphia); Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown (Boston); Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis); and Trae Young and John Collins (Atlanta).
